Baker Mayfield has two challenges this summer. He’s competing with Kyle Trask for the starting quarterback position at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Additionally, he’s facing a dispute with family members over money loss, as reported by KXAN in Austin, Texas.
Mayfield and his wife, Emily, asked a court in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday to start interviews for a legal case against six companies. Two of these companies, Camwood Capital Management Group LLC and Camwood Ventures LP, were established by Mayfield’s father, James Mayfield.
Mayfield and his wife are asking the companies to share financial reports from 2018 to 2023. They want to understand what happened to the $12 million they invested. The Mayfields are unsure “if their money has been properly and competently invested, has been stolen or otherwise misappropriated, or something in between,” according to the petition.
The petition is not a lawsuit, but there might be one later, depending on how the companies react to the request. Camwood Capital, the company that might be sued, has been handling Mayfield’s brand and finances since his time at Oklahoma, as mentioned in a 2019 article from The Athletic.
Mayfield said in the article, “Protecting the money we’re earning is No. 1. I’ve always been one to save it. For me, it’s protecting the money by surrounding yourself with good people.”
Mayfield wants to see his money papers from 2018, when he joined the Cleveland Browns as their top pick in the NFL Draft. Back then, he got a four-year, $32 million contract.

Mayfield chose to join the Buccaneers as a free agent. He’s currently competing with Trask, who served as Tom Brady’s backup for the last two seasons. The competition is almost over.
