Explore Ella Jo Leonard’s Journey from Iowa to the Dance Floor

On November 7, 2003, Ella Jo Leonard was born in Des Moines, Iowa, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. David and Nikki (Mains) Leonard, her parents, greeted her warmly when she arrived home. After five and a half years, her sister Ava joined her.

Ella experimented with a variety of sports at first, but dance was her true love. She started going to the neighborhood dancing studios and enjoyed working with the group. She genuinely enjoyed the company of people and everything that dancing, particularly competitions had to offer.

She was quite pleased with herself when in her sophomore year, she achieved her ambition of joining the Winterset Dance Team. She made two of her closest friends, Kayla and Lanee while playing on the squad. They were referred to as the “triple threats” since they were indivisible.

The next year, once Ella’s best friends Kacie and Emma joined the group, they were dubbed the “fab five.” They made for an entertaining squad to watch. They won first place in Pom, Hip Hop, Novelty and Military as small varsity champions at Regionals in 2020 and 2021 while they were on the squad.

In 2020, they came in second overall and in 2021, they took first place overall. After that, the team headed to Texas for Nationals, where they won the tiny varsity division, took first place in every dance and were placed second in the country. Ella had great pride in this achievement.

From Where Did Ella Jo Leonard Get Education?

After she graduated from Winterset High School in 2022, Ella enrolled at Southwestern Community College in Creston to pursue a nursing degree. She decided at this point to join the Southwestern Community College dance team and pursue her dream of becoming a Dazzler.

Ella relished the season and her newfound college and team pals. At the Nationals in Florida, the team finished the season ranked fourth in the country for Pom and fifth in the nation for Hip Hop and Jazz. For the spring semester, Ella was named to the President’s Honor Roll.

Ella cherished the time spent with her sister, Ava. They liked to go shopping, take trips, visit Starbucks and create TikTok videos together. Ella forced Ava to watch Real Housewives of New Jersey and when Ava struggled to keep up, Ella took out her notepad and created a “family tree” to help her figure out who was who.

She was living life to the fullest and savoring each minute. She enjoyed coming to the nutrition store and gym every day. After graduating from nursing school, Ella and Maddie dreamed of becoming travel nurses. They first connected on the college dance team.

Which Work Did Ella Jo Leonard Do in Her Life?

Ella was employed at RDA in Mount Ayr, Iowa, by her cousin Ryann. She liked getting to know the children and organizing their schedules. She and her dad had worked in the shop for the past two summers, but she enjoyed spending time with “her dog,” Waylon, the most.

They enjoyed going on part runs, getting the mail, going to the bank and snapping pictures. When he received his first puppy cup from Scooters on Friday, she was giddy with joy.
