Brunswick Records saw the Pips’ popularity and signed them in 1957. Nevertheless, the label dropped them in 1959 after they were unable to produce a record that charted.

The group renamed themselves Gladys Knight & the Pips and produced a new single on Fury Records in 1961 called “Every Beat of My Heart,” which reached the “Billboard” charts.
