In 2002, Brown started the Zac Brown Band with his friends Marcus Petruska and Jacob Lawson. Two years later, he and his dad opened a music club and restaurant by Lake Oconee in Georgia.
Brown then bought a tour bus and started touring full-time. The band released its first independent album, “Home Grown.” During that time, they added violinist and vocalist Jimmy De Martini.
In 2005, John Driskell Hopkins joined as the bass guitarist, and they scored their first number-one hit, “Toes.” It later became part of their major label debut, “The Foundation,” in 2008.
The album had other hits like “Chicken Fried,” “Whatever It Is,” “Highway 20 Ride,” and “Free.” The band added drummer Chris Fryar and signed with Live Nation Artists Records. In 2009, they welcomed multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Clay Cook.
In 2010, the Zac Brown Band dropped their second album, “You Get What You Give,” and it rocked the charts, landing at number one on both the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Top Country Albums. The album spawned popular singles like “As She’s Walking Away,” a duet with Alan Jackson, as well as “Colder Weather,” “Knee Deep,” and “Keep Me in Mind.”
