Being banned from playing at the Disney Springs House of Blues in Florida in 2019, due to their violent imagery. The band responded by designing a horror Disney-inspired merchandise line.

After being banned from playing the House of Blues in Orlando, Fla. in April 2019 The horrorcore band had booked a “revenge show” for July 25, 2019 at the city’s Soundbar venue with Toothgrinder along for support. Frontman Spencer Charnas explained:

“What happened was — maybe a month before the tour was supposed to start, I get a call from my booking agent saying, ‘Hey, unfortunately, you guys have been asked not to play the Orlando show because it’s on Disney property [and] the band’s violent imagery doesn’t bond well with their moral and ethical code.’ So, you know, it was really funny.”

Receiving backlash over the lyrics of their 2023 song “Planet Zero” which some fans interpreted as anti-vaccine, anti-mask and anti-cancel culture. The band denied having any political agenda and said the song was about humanism and social critique.

Who Founded Ice Nine Kills?

An American heavy metal band from Boston, Massachusetts called Ice Nine Kills is signed to Fearless Records. In its initial form, Ice Nine Kills was founded in 2000 by two buddies from high school, Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz. The band is well recognized for its horror-themed lyrics.

At the moment, Charnas is the lone surviving original member. Six full-length studio albums and three EPs have been released by Ice Nine Kills: The Silver Scream, which peaked at number 29, Safe Is Just a Shadow, The Predator Becomes the Prey, Every Trick in the Book, which peaked at number 122 on the US Billboard 200 and their most recent album, The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood, which peaked at number 18. The fictitious chemical ice-nine from Kurt Vonnegut’s 1963 novel Cat’s Cradle is the source of their band name.
