Where Was Michael Yagmin’s Funeral Services Held?

Michael Yagmin’s funeral services were held at the Crystal Ballroom in New Britain, Ct. on Thursday, April 27th, 2023 from 10 am to 1 pm. Burial was private at the convenience of the family.

What is the Reason Behind Michael Yagmin’s Death?

Yagmin was found dead at the age of 54 in his apartment at 410 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, Connecticut. Michael Yagmin a terminated city fire lieutenant in New Britain died from an accidental overdose.

The Chief Medical Examiner said that he died of acute intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl and xylazine a veterinary sedative and muscle relaxant. Yagmin was the focal point of the firehouse drug controversy last year.

On February 18, 2022, he was fired for lying to investigators after it was discovered that he had given illegal substances to firefighter Matthew Dizney. After Dizney’s death at his Southington home, an internal inquiry was launched.

The investigation revealed that over six firefighters had used illegal narcotics, at least three of them while they were on duty. Dizney had some of the same substances in his system that were found in Michael’s body.

Mike Yagmin was raised in New Britain, Connecticut, where he was born. He played basketball for Central Connecticut State University in college. Before turning into a scout who assisted athletes in attracting college scouts, he worked as a coach in the New England region.

“Yags” had a significant influence on the local grassroots basketball scene. Former NBA All-Star Andre Drummond is among the athletes he assisted in developing. Additionally, he mentored Hassan Diarra, a player for the UConn Huskies.

After Yagmin’s passing, members of the New England basketball community extended condolences. The New England Basketball team tweeted, “All Mike Yagmin ever did was help get kids the exposure they needed. This guy helped New England basketball in so many indescribable ways. May your soul rest, Yags.”

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony paid tribute to his friend by tweeting, “Heartbroken by my friend Mike Yagmin’s passing. No one was more passionate about helping young people, regardless of level, reach their dreams.”

Justin Clark tweeted, “I am forever thankful to him and he will be missed by so many.”

Vermont Academy Boys’ Prep Basketball team tweeted, “New England basketball will miss him greatly. Our condolences to the Yagmin family.”

Lwproductions said, “RIP YAGSSSS!!!! Mannnn when I first started filming @MikeYagmin was always there to help or connect me to people!”

He was employed as a video coordinator at St. Thomas More School, which issued the following statement after learning of his passing:

“His unwavering support of New England basketball benefited many. His legacy will always be amplified by each of the kids he helped.”
