When Did Yuzuru Hanyu Divorce His Wife?
On August 4, 2023, Hanyu announced his marriage to an unnamed spouse through his official social media account. Hanyu thanked supporters for their support during his skating career in a social media post that was sent at the superstitious hour of 11:11 p.m. in Japan.
He said, “Thank you for your constant support. I, Hanyu Yuzuru, am pleased to announce that I have decided to get married.”
But after three months of marriage, Hanyu announced on November 17, 2023, that he and his spouse had divorced. In a statement, he said:
“I have married a civilian. We married with the determination to respect and cherish each other. We have overcome many obstacles together while thinking about various things in order to protect each other. In such a life, my partner supported me to protect me, even though she could not step out of the house for a long time.”
“Currently, various media outlets are slandering, stalking and conducting unauthorised interviews and reports against my partner, who is a civilian, their relatives and associates, as well as against my relatives and associates. “
“However, due to my immatureness, it has been extremely difficult and unbearable to continue to protect my partner and myself in the current situation. I have made the decision to divorce because I want my partner to be happy and to be happy without restriction. I will continue to move forward. Thank you for your continued support.”

Who is Yuzuru Hanyu’s Parents?
On December 7, 1994, in the Izumi ward of Sendai, Japan, Yuzuru Hanyu was born. His mother, Yumi Hanyu was a former department store clerk and his father, Hidetoshi Hanyu, was a junior high school teacher.
Though Hanyu’s father encouraged his son to play baseball as an advisor for the school team, Hanyu ultimately chose to focus on figure skating. During his early career, his mother used to manufacture costumes such as the 2010–11 season’s free skate costume, which was created by American figure skater Johnny Weir.
She relocated to Toronto, Canada in 2012, where she trained alongside Hanyu, but his father and elder sister, Saya, remained in Japan. He did very hard work to reach at this stage.
