Carter Cooper is the older brother of Anderson Cooper. His death deeply affected his friends and family members. In this post, you will get all the information related to his death.
How Did Carter Cooper Die?
Carter Cooper the eldest child of Gloria Vanderbilt and Wyatt Cooper, Anderson Cooper’s brother arrived unexpectedly at his mother’s 14th-floor apartment in New York City on the morning of July 22, 1988. At that time he had broken up with the girl he loved.
At about 7 p.m. Mr. Cooper jumped from a 14th-floor penthouse terrace at 10 Gracie Square and landed in an alley between the building and a walkway next to the East River. When he jumped, his mother was on the terrace with him.
Mr. Cooper did not leave a note before attempted suicide. He was receiving therapy for depression. At the time of death, Carter Cooper was not into alcohol or drugs. For his asthma, he did have a recently prescribed inhaler, though.
Even his therapist, with whom he was also seeing, was taken aback by his suicide. In the book A Mother’s Story, Gloria Vanderbilt wrote about the death of her son and shared her belief that the suicide was caused by a psychotic episode induced by an allergy to the anti-asthma prescription drug salbutamol. After 35 years of Carter’s death, his brother honored him and below you will read about it.
