Stark is the daughter of Walter Stark, an ophthalmologist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Wilmer Eye Clinic in Baltimore, Maryland. Her love in sports started when she was a little child and went to Baltimore Colts games with her father, who provided eye care to players.
She was valedictorian of her class at the women’s prep school Roland Park Country School in Baltimore when she graduated. Stark earned a Spanish and foreign affairs degree with honors from the University of Virginia. In addition, she belonged to the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta.
She started working as a news intern at Baltimore’s WMAR-TV’s assignment desk in 1991. In 1993 and 1994, Stark worked as a news intern for CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, where she produced scripts and gathered background material for Bob Arnot, the health correspondent.
Before moving to ESPN, Stark worked as a reporter and production assistant for Virginia Sports Marketing in Charlottesville from 1994 to 1995, where she worked with George Welsh and Jeff Jones on the University of Virginia’s Coach’s TV Show.
In her fifth season hosting NFL 360, she is currently a reporter for the NFL Network. She had previously been employed by NBC, mostly as a journalist for NBC’s The Today Show and at its MSNBC spinoff. She served as MSNBC’s anchor for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the summer of 2008.
She worked as an ESPN reporter before joining NBC. There were fewer female sportscasters when Stark started her profession, therefore she has been called a “trailblazer” who cleared the path for them.
