Robert Patrick Petrino was born in Lewistown, Montana, raised in Helena and earned his diploma from Capital High School in 1979. Attending Carroll College in his hometown, he graduated in 1983 with a degree in physical education and a minor in math.
He started his coaching career at Carroll as a graduate assistant in 1983 after playing quarterback for the Fighting Saints while attending. At the time, Bob Petrino Sr., his father was Carroll’s head coach. He served in that capacity from 1971 until 1999.
He is the Arkansas Razorbacks’ offensive coordinator at the moment. He was the Missouri State Bears’ previous head coach. Before being let go during the 2018 season, he led the Louisville Cardinals football team from 2014 until that point.
He served in that capacity from 2003 until 2006. Petrino led the University of Arkansas football team from 2008 to 2011. In the spring of 2012, he was fired from that job for concealing an ad_lterous relationship with an employee of the athletic department.
For the first 13 games of the 2007 season, Petrino served as the head coach of the National Football League’s (NFL) Atlanta Falcons. He was the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers’ football head coach in 2013 and the Missouri State Bears’ head coach from 2020 to 2022.
Nine bowl games have been won by Petrino’s collegiate teams including the first-ever Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bowl games for the Louisville Cardinals and Arkansas Razorbacks.
