What is Zehra Gunes Professional Background?
In the 2016–17 season of the Turkish Women’s Volleyball League, Zehra Gunes played for Besiktas J.K. on loan from her home club. The following season, she returned to her home club and won her first league champion title with Vakıfbank Istanbul in 2017–18.
During that season, she received the “Vestel Special Prize” in the Vestel Venus Sultans League, the top-level Turkish volleyball league sponsored by Vestel. Zehra also took part in the 2017–18 CEV Women’s Champions League with Vakıfbank Istanbul, and her team emerged as the champions.
Zehra Gunes had a busy few years in volleyball. She played in the 2015 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival in Georgia and the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship in Peru, where she won the Best Middle Blocker title. The following year, she joined the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix.
Zehra was part of the Turkish women’s U20 team in 2017 and played in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship in Mexico, earning recognition as one of the best middle blockers.
She continued her success with the Turkish women’s U23 team at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship in Slovenia, where they became champions. In January 2017, Zehra got an invitation to join the Turkey women’s team and officially became a team member in March 2018.
She played in the inaugural 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League, helping Turkey win the silver medal. Zehra also participated in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics with the Turkish squad, finishing in fifth place.
