What Did Charlie Sheen Do in His Early Years?
Charlie Sheen is the youngest child of Janet Templeton, an artist and actor Martin Sheen, whose true name is Ramón Estévez. His father’s parents immigrated from Ireland and Galicia, respectively. Sheen stated in 2011 that his mother was Southern Baptist and his father was Catholic.
He has two older brothers, Emilio and Ramon, and a younger sister, Renée. Following his Broadway performance of The Subject Was Roses, Martin’s parents relocated to Malibu, California. At the age of nine, Sheen made his screen debut in his father’s 1974 picture “The Execution of Private Slovik”.
Along with Robert Downey Jr., Sheen attended Santa Monica High School in Santa Monica, California, where the latter played shortstop and pitcher for the baseball team. He showed an early interest in acting at Santa Monica High School, collaborating on homemade Super 8 films under his birth name alongside his brother Emilio and classmates Rob Lowe and Sean Penn.
Sheen was expelled from the school a few weeks prior to graduation due to low attendance and academics. He chose to pursue a career in acting and adopted the stage name Charlie Sheen. Charlie was the English version of his given name Carlos, and his father had taken on the surname Sheen in honor of the Catholic archbishop and theologian Fulton J. Sheen.
