According to his family, longtime Seattle TV weather forecaster Steve Pool passed away on November 22, 2023, from Alzheimer’s disease. A statement regarding Steve Pool’s passing was posted on his Facebook page. The statement is:

“Dear Friends, I am here to share the sad news that my dear husband, my love, has passed away from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. He fought this terrible disease privately for several years, and with every ounce of his being. He told me multiple times to “never count me out” and we never did. This past week it became too much and he passed away peacefully.”

“We are so blessed to have had him in our lives. He was an extraordinary man, husband, father and good friend to many. Please know that he truly loved his job and this community and felt so privileged to be a part of your lives.”

How Much Fame Did Steve Pool Earn Before Death?

Steve was one of the pioneers of Seattle broadcasting and eventually became the principal weather anchor on KOMO 4. 

He began working as an intern for the station in 1974 while attending the University of Washington for his undergraduate studies. The University of Washington tweeted, “Steve’s legendary career with @komonews spanned more than four decades, serving as one of our region’s most trusted weathermen.”

Pool graduated from Tyee High School in SeaTac, Washington, where he had served as president of the student body. Pool started his career as an intern at KOMO-TV while he was a student at the University of Washington. Following his graduation in 1978, Pool pursued careers as a writer, reporter and weathercaster.

In the 1980s, Pool began hosting the Saturday morning program “Front Runners” on KOMO-TV. In the 1990s, Pool starred in the children’s Direct-to-Video series “Little Steps.” Pool received eight Emmy Awards during his career and appeared on Good Morning America more than 70 times.

In addition, he wrote the book “Somewhere, I Was Right” which discusses weather and forecasting. In 2004, he was inducted into the University of Washington Department of Communications Hall of Fame.

Detlef Schrempf tweeted, “Man so sad! R.I.P. Steve Pool. I will miss your smile. Another one way too soon. Make every day count.” 

Alissa Teel tweeted, “I just learned that KOMO’s Steve Pool died. What a huge loss. I am so glad I was able to work with him not once but twice.”

Jamal Crawford said, “Truly a Seattle icon. RIP Steve Pool. Prayers to his family!”
