Stuart Seldowitz has a significant background in international relations and politics. Born in 1959 and raised in New York, Seldowitz completed his studies at Columbia University in 1981 with a concentration in international relations and political science.
His remarkable career in the US Foreign Service began thereafter and he served as a diplomat in Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, among other countries. Notably under the Obama administration, he also functioned as the acting director of the National Security Council’s South Asia Division.
Apart from his vast experience in government service, Seldowitz took on the position of chair for foreign affairs at Gotham Government Relations. In 2009, Seldowitz assumed the position of director for European Affairs at the National Security Council advising President Barack Obama on matters related to the Balkans, Turkey, Cyprus and the Caucasus.
Seldowitz held important roles in the State Department during his tenure such as directorships in the offices of Egyptian affairs, Israel and Palestinian affairs. Notably, he was crucial to the implementation of the Dayton Peace Accords, which brought an end to the Bosnian War in 1995.
