Hamish Harding’s Journey from IT to Aviation
Harding was employed in the information technology sector in the 1990s. Prior to founding the private investment firm Action Group in 1999, he held the position of Managing Director of Logica India and assisted in the establishment of Logica Middle East in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
He established Action Aviation, an aviation firm in 2002. Using a Gulfstream G550, Harding collaborated with White Desert, an Antarctic VIP travel company to launch the first regular corporate jet service to the continent.
Additionally, Harding made multiple trips to the South Pole in 2016, he went with Buzz Aldrin, who at the age of 86, became the oldest person to reach the pole and his son who became the youngest in 12 years.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, Harding and Terry Virts led a group of pilots that set a record for the fastest-ever circumnavigation of the Earth in 46 hours and 40 minutes by flying a Gulfstream G650ER around the North and South Poles.
Using the two-person deep-submergence vehicle DSV Limiting Factor, Harding and Victor Vescovo descended to the Challenger Deep, the lowest point in the Mariana Trench, on March 5, 2021, at a depth of roughly 11,000 m (36,000 feet).
Harding was launched into space on June 4, 2022, on the fifth crewed spaceflight of the New Shepard rocket, as part of the suborbital Blue Origin NS-21 mission. Following his space flight, he promoted referring to space tourists that is paying passengers in recreational spaceflight as astronauts.

On June 24, 1964, George Hamish Livingston Harding was born in Hammersmith, London. He was inspired by the Apollo 11 landing in 1969 while watching the event on TV with his parents. He was born and raised in Hong Kong, which was a Crown Colony at the time.
At the age of 13, he enlisted in the Royal Air Force-sponsored Air Training Corps, a youth organization and began flying Chipmunk aircraft. From 1975 to 1982, he attended The King’s School, an independent day school located in Gloucester, South West England.
In 1985, while enrolled at Cambridge’s Pembroke College, he obtained his pilot’s license. He earned a degree in Natural Sciences and a postgraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University.
