DeJean made a number of important plays that helped OABCIG beat Van Meter in the state title game. In just two minutes, DeJean made two tackles returned a punt 14 yards completed two passes for 52 yards, ran three times for 22 yards, scored two scores and added a two-point conversion.

He mostly played on special teams and had four stops. In his second year, 2022, he became a starter. In 2022, DeJean played cornerback, cash and punt returner for the Hawkeyes. During the summer, he also played safety. DeJean showed how versatile he is by picking off a Graham Mertz pass and returning it 32 yards for a score against Wisconsin.
He also made 10 tackles, forced a fumble, downed a punt on the one-yard line and returned four punts for 82 yards which set up a short Iowa touchdown drive. DeJean was getting more yards than the Hawkeye attack through three quarters.
It was decided that DeJean would be the most valuable player in the 2022 Music City Bowl. He made seven tackles, returned an interception 14 yards for a score and returned three punts 42 yards.
