Who are the Parents of Micky Flanagan?
Flanagan was born in Whitechapel, East London and grew up in Bethnal Green. His dad, Jim Flanagan was from County Donegal in Ulster, Ireland’s northern county. He used to work as a welder and later as a fish porter. His father was involved in petty crime and served a short prison sentence as a result.
Flanagan was a kind and sensitive kid who wanted to leave the East End of London. He joined the Young Socialists when he was thirteen years old. Flanagan was a smart student who stopped caring about his schoolwork and started skipping classes.
He dropped out of school when he was fifteen and didn’t get any good grades. He got his first job as a fish worker at Billingsgate Fish Market through his dad. Even though Flanagan was getting paid well for the work, he stopped caring about it.
He worked as a cook porter on Fire Island, New York, over the summer of 1981. Flanagan went back to London and worked for a while as a furniture maker. His business didn’t do well, so he went back to Fire Island for another summer.
Flanagan went back to school when he was 25 years old and started with a GCSE in English. He then took a foundation study in Arts and Social Sciences and started a degree at City University when he was 29 years old.
