Many in our state had the pleasure to play for this incredible coach. I knew him as the friendliest press box greeter always with an extended hand, a wide smile💙

A Look at Lou Cotroneo’s Professional Life
In the St. Paul hockey community, Cotroneo was a legendary figure, especially at Johnson High School, where he was the backup goalie for the 1947 Governors state championship team.
Cotroneo went on to coach the team for 20 years including 10 years as head coach, during which Johnson made seven trips to the state tournament. Prior to joining the St. Paul city staff, he was Humboldt High School’s assistant principal.
However, he was a constant presence in St. Paul hockey having worked as a stick boy for the minor league St. Paul Saints, an official in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and the VIP greeter for the Wild throughout the first ten years of the franchise’s existence. Cotroneo was dubbed “the Godfather of St. Paul hockey” by former US Senator Norm Coleman.
