Which Award Did Bubba Copeland Get in His Life?
Copeland served on the Lee County Board of Education representing District 5, which includes the Smiths Station school zone from 2005 to 2016, when he announced his candidacy for mayor. He previously considered running for mayor in 2012 but decided not to because the incumbent mayor, LaFaye Dellinger was seeking re-election.
Dellinger supported Copeland to succeed her as mayor. On August 23, Copeland emerged victorious in the election, unseating Buster Bessant to assume the role of the city’s second mayor ever. In 2020, he was elected again.
The East Alabama Chamber of Commerce presented him with the “Individual of the Year Award” in 2020 in recognition of his efforts as mayor after the tornado.
