From Where Did George Floyd Get Education?
Floyd was born on October 14, 1973 to George Perry and Larcenia “Cissy” Jones in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He had four siblings.
Floyd’s mother moved with the children to the Cuney Homes public housing complex, often known as the Bricks in Houston’s Third Ward, a historically African-American neighborhood, when Floyd was two years old and following his parents’ divorce.
Floyd attended Ryan Middle School and received his high school diploma from Yates in 1993. He was a power forward on the basketball team at Yates and served as co-captain. As a tight end for the football squad, he participated in the 1992 Texas state finals with his team.
Floyd was the first of his siblings to attend college, spending two years at South Florida Community College on a football scholarship while also participating in basketball.
In 1995, he changed schools and enrolled at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he played basketball as well. After being introduced to one another in the mid-1990s, Floyd became friends with Stephen Jackson, a future NBA star who was known as his “twin” due to their striking likeness.
He was very talented when he got an education but after some time his life totally changed and he was sent to prison.
When Did George Floyd Sent to Prison?
He was found guilty of eight crimes between 1997 and 2005. After agreeing to a plea deal for an aggravated robbery during a home invasion in 2007, he was sentenced to four years in prison.
He mentored members of his religious community after being released on parole in 2013 and he also shared anti-violence videos on social media. He relocated to the St. Louis Park neighborhood of the Minneapolis area in 2014, where he worked as a bouncer and truck driver.
He was fired from both his security job and his truck driving job in 2020 because of the COVID-19 epidemic. Floyd’s family and the City of Minneapolis reached a $27 million settlement in their wrongful death lawsuit.
He was shot and killed by a police officer on May 25, 2020, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while being detained after a store clerk suspected Floyd of using a fake $20 bill.
