Formerly known as Dusty Stewart, Dusty Street entered this world on July 11, 1946, in San Francisco. She was raised in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, so she was immersed in the counterculture of the 1960s. She fell in love with rock music and befriended many of its most prominent figures, including Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Grace Slick.

In 1967, Dusty Street began her radio career at KMPX-FM, one of the earliest pirate stations in the United States. Then, she made history as one of the first female rock jocks on the West Coast when she landed a job at KSAN-FM. She was well-liked for her sharp humor, unique style, and recognizable voice. To name just a few, she was instrumental in the early success of groups like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and The Eagles.
