How Did Suzanne Somers Die?
On Sunday, October 15, 2023, early in the morning, the actress who had endured an aggressive form of breast cancer for more than 23 years, passed away peacefully at home. R. Couri Hay, Somers’ longtime publicist released a statement on behalf of the family of the actress. The statement read:
“Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family, Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on Oct. 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”
In an Instagram post, Somers disclosed that her breast cancer had returned in July. Alongside a photo of herself and Hamel, she said:
“As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down. I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me. I know how to put on my battle gear and I’m a fighter.”

The actress also thanked Hamel and her entire family in the same message for their unwavering support. Somers also discussed the “big upside” of her illness, which was how it had grown closer to her spouse over time. She said, “We have not spent one day apart in over 42 years.”
The actress had previously battled skin cancer and received her initial diagnosis in 2000. Somers encountered considerable criticism for her dependence on what she describes as an organic, chemical-free way of life to fight the tumors.
