Is Hozier Gay?

Hozier is not gay. Irish singer-songwriter Hozier, who is nominated for a Grammy claims that because of his anti-Roman Catholic church anthem “Take Me To Church” and the anti-homophobia music video that goes with it, many assume he is gay.

The “Take Me To Church” video has received close to 100 million YouTube views. This video depicted the story of two gay lovers who are attacked by a mob, taking its inspiration from the prevalence of anti-gay violence in Russia. That’s why fans think that he is gay.

Hozier told backstage at the London venue:

“Yes, people do make that assumption (that I am gay), which is fine, but for me I don’t think it’s the point, you know what I mean. It doesn’t come into it what my s*xual orientation is.”

He laughed:

“Regardless of the s*xual orientation behind a relationship, it is still a relationship and still love… So people are free to make any assumption they want, it’s grand.”
