Jim Poole Was a Serviceable MLB Player
The Los Angeles Dodgers picked Georgia Tech’s Jim Poole in the ninth round of the 1988 Major League Baseball Draft. He planned to graduate from the Institute’s electrical engineering program in 1990.
Poole played for the San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians, and Baltimore Orioles during his first eleven seasons in the major leagues. After 431 games, he had a record of 22 wins, 4.31 earned run average, 256 strikeouts, and 4 saves. In 1995 and 1998, he led Cleveland to the American League Championship Series, where they faced off against the Atlanta Braves.

After retiring at the end of the 2000 season, Poole came back to Georgia Tech to help the Alexander-Tharpe Fund and the baseball team. He eventually became a financial counselor for BIP Wealth’s Baseball Division.
