Stan Elrod Passed Away: When Did High School Principal Die?

The first principal of Reagan High School when it opened in 2005, “Stan Elrod” a local of Forsyth County died at his residence. He didn’t stay away from the school district for very long, either and soon assumed the position of athletics director. Elrod spent more than thirty years working for Forsyth County Education. 

What is Stan Elrod’s Death Date?

Stan Elrod passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at his home. Elrod was raised in Whitmire, South Carolina, the location of his parents’ textile mill job. He loved athletics and participated in basketball, baseball and football in high school.

He initially enrolled on a basketball scholarship at North Greenville Junior College in Tigerville, South Carolina. Later, he enrolled in Newberry College, where he earned a social studies degree before leaving.

Elrod later completed a master’s degree at Winthrop College in Rock Hill before starting his career as a social studies instructor and basketball coach at York High School.

Elrod began teaching social studies at Reynolds in 1981 but was soon elevated to the roles of associate principal and director of athletics. In the end, the school’s principal appointed him. As the first principal of Ronald Wilson Reagan High School, he established new customs and a solid team.

In 2010, when he announced his retirement, he said he would miss the students and the teachers, but not the other stuff. Stan was one of five candidates vying for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education seat at the time of his death.

How did People React on Stan Elrod’s Death?

The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed. People began paying tribute to the acclaimed academic after word of Stan Elrod’s untimely death went viral.

Many others posted images of themselves with Elrod on Facebook and expressed their dismay at the news. Charles O’Neal posted, “My heart is heavy because a wonderful husband, father, family member, teacher, administrator, coach, athletic director and a very dear friend Mr. Stan Elrod passed away.”

Emily Crawford Elrod wrote, “To say we are heartbroken is an understatement! I can’t explain what he meant to me.”

Ashley Weeks Stabolitis posted, “With my whole heart I can say that I stayed in education as a classroom teacher for 22 years because I began my career under the leadership of Stan Elrod.” 

Floyd Baldo wrote, “It crushes my heart to hear about Mr. Stan Elrod! He has always been an upstanding man and one of a handful of mentors growing up.” 

Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. posted, “It is with sadness that we learn we have lost another great man in our community, another great leader.” 

Rusty Doggett shared a post on Facebook, “Today I thought I was having a bad day.”
