At What Age Did Robert Urich Die?
Urich was born on December 19, 1946, and he died at the age of 55 on April 16, 2002 due to cancer. His parents, John Paul and Cecilia Monica Urich, lived in Toronto. He came from Rusyn and Slovak families and was raised both Byzantine and Roman Catholic.
Urich went to Florida State University on a sports scholarship because he was a great athlete in high school. During the 1965–66 football season, he was a backup center who didn’t play much. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha club. He got his bachelor’s degree in radio and TV communications in 1968.
He went on to get a master’s degree in Broadcast Research and Management from Michigan State University. Then, Urich worked as a salesman at WGN-TV in Chicago. He worked as a weatherman after that.

During his 30-year run, he had the lead role in a record 15 TV shows. In the early 1970s, Urich got his start in television. After appearing as a guest star and in short-lived TV shows, he won a co-starring part in the 1975 action/crime drama series S.W.A.T.
In 1978, he got the lead part of Dan Tanna in the crime drama series Vega$ which ran on ABC from 1978 to June 1981 and got him two Golden Globe Award nominations. In addition to his work on TV, Urich co-starred in several movies such as Magnum Force, The Ice Pirates and Turk 182.
From 1985 to 1988, he played the title part in the detective TV show Spenser: For Hire which was based on a series of mystery books by Robert B. Parker. In 1988, he became the host of the National Geographic Explorer television series.
For his work on the show, he was given a CableACE Award. A Golden Boot Award was also given to him for his work in Western movies and TV shows. He got an Emmy in 1993 for being the voice of a nature documentary. He said on “The Late Show with David Letterman” that he had no idea he had been nominated or won.
