Angie Smith, a veteran of the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle division was hurt Saturday, September 30, 2023 afternoon during qualifying for the NHRA Midwest Nationals at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois. The accident happened in the shutdown area.
Which Injury Did Angie Smith Get in the Accident?
Smith was 13th going into the second session of professional qualifying, but she moved up to 8th with a 6.880 second, 198.93 mph run in the left lane next to Cory Reed, during which she apparently got separated from her DENSO-backed Buell at a very high speed.
She barrel-rolled across the dragstrip in the shutdown area. One Twitter user shared the video of the incident and you can watch it in the tweet provided below:

She was alert and conscious and was checked out by the NHRA medical team on the spot before being taken to a nearby hospital for more tests. After some time she was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. NHRA team shared a update on this incident in a post provided below:
Later that night, “Angie Smith Racing” a Facebook account released a statement stating that Angie had broken both of her ankles and had a lot of road rash. Angie was to stay in the hospital overnight and on next day she was to see a skin graft surgeon about her wounds.
