Who Is Keefe D and What Is His Role in Tupac Shakur’s Murder?

Who Is Keefe D

Born on June 14, 1963, Duane Keith “Keefe D” Davis is a member of the notorious South Side Compton Crips street gang in Compton, California. It is believed that Davis, a boyhood friend of N.W.A. leader Eazy-E, was involved in the murder of Tupac Shakur. Davis says he was riding shotgun with the suspect when Tupac was killed.

Fans and others have hypothesized that Davis and his nephew Orlando Anderson were involved in the murder, but a Compton, California detective named them in an affidavit as suspects. Anderson was shot and killed by rival gang members in 1998. Davis was taken into custody and charged with Shakur’s murder on September 29th, 2023.

What was “Keefe D” and Greg Kading’s Taped Chat About Tupac’s Shooting?

Greg Kading, a former LAPD detective who investigated the murder of Christopher “Biggie Smalls” Wallace, published a book in October 2011 in which he claimed that Sean “Diddy” Combs paid Duane Keith “Keefe D” Davis $1 million to kill Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight. According to Davis and Kading, Anderson was in the car that drew up close to Tupac’s BMW before the shooting. Davis told Kading, in a taped discussion, that Anderson shot Tupac.

The claims made by Kading about Anderson mirrored those made by Philips’s series and Scott’s book. According to multiple accounts, four black guys were inside the white Cadillac that pulled up next to the BMW in which Knight and Tupac were traveling on the night they were shot. Anderson was sitting in the backseat of the Cadillac, leaning out the window and shooting Tupac, according to multiple sources.

According to Kading and Philips, a million-dollar bounty was given to the Crips if they would kill Knight and Tupac. Kading claims that it was Combs who offered the reward, whereas Phillips attributes it to Wallace.

Did Orlando Anderson Ever Confess to Shooting Tupac Shakur?

Did Orlando Anderson Ever Confess to Shooting Tupac Shakur

On the evening of September 7, 1996, Anderson fought with Shakur and his entourage inside the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, three hours before Shakur was shot. At the time, Lt. Larry Spinosa of the Las Vegas Homicide Unit told the press, “At this point, Orlando Anderson is not a suspect in the shooting of Tupac Shakur.” Anderson, along with his uncle, was eventually labeled a suspect in the investigation.

Anderson later rejected claims made about him in an interview with VIBE magazine that he had boasted about shooting the rapper. A month after the incident, Anderson was one of twenty-one people arrested in Compton on suspicion of being gang members. Anderson did not face any charges. However, Compton police claimed they were investigating local shootings, not the one in Las Vegas, so the connection between the two events was tenuous at best during the raid.

Check out the below tweet:

According to a Los Angeles Times article, Las Vegas police ruled out Orlando Anderson as a suspect because of a dispute that occurred hours before the shooting, in which Shakur was involved in attacking Anderson in the Las Vegas MGM lobby.

Rapper Yaki Kadafi, a witness to the shooting who told Vegas police he could identify one or more of the assailants, was murdered two months after the shooting, and a witness who saw a white Cadillac matching the description of the car from which the fatal shots were fired and in which the shooters fled was also ignored.
