For the first time since the merger, Kupp finished the season as the league’s leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. The absence of Kupp has heightened the significance of Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua’s play for the Rams. In the Week 1 win, both Atwell and Nacua finished with 119 receiving yards. The addition of Kupp to the mix could prove fatal.

A Rams transcript quotes McVay as saying, “We are hopeful about that.” “I want to be careful to say, but the reason why we put him on IR was so that you know if it was going to be those four weeks that he’s mandated to be allowed to miss, and then we can remove him off the IR and be available for that fifth week. Because you never know what’s going to happen, that was the thinking behind last week’s decision.
