Cooper Kupp Injury
Matthew Stafford’s presence helped the Los Angeles Rams in Game 1 of the season. Cooper Kupp has not yet arrived, but they continue to wait. It appeared that Kupp would be ready for the season start before he suffered a hamstring injury in the preseason. Instead, the Rams have placed Kupp on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the team’s first four games.
Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, is hoping Kupp will be able to play in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

After catching 75 passes for 812 yards and three touchdowns in nine games last year, Kupp hasn’t participated in a game since Week 10 of this season. Kupp had the only 2,000-yard receiving season in the 102-year history of the NFL (including playoffs) the year before. To date, only Calvin Johnson (122.8), Julio Jones (116.9), and Jerry Rice (115.5) have averaged more than 115 receiving yards per game in a season in NFL history. He concluded the 2021 season with an average of 115.5 yards per game.

For the first time since the merger, Kupp finished the season as the league’s leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. The absence of Kupp has heightened the significance of Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua’s play for the Rams. In the Week 1 win, both Atwell and Nacua finished with 119 receiving yards. The addition of Kupp to the mix could prove fatal.
A Rams transcript quotes McVay as saying, “We are hopeful about that.” “I want to be careful to say, but the reason why we put him on IR was so that you know if it was going to be those four weeks that he’s mandated to be allowed to miss, and then we can remove him off the IR and be available for that fifth week. Because you never know what’s going to happen, that was the thinking behind last week’s decision.
