American football running back Nicholas Jamaal Chubb (born December 27, 1995) currently plays for the Cleveland Browns of the NFL. He played collegiate football at Georgia before being selected by the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft’s second round. During his time in the NFL, Chubb has been selected for four Pro Bowls.
Nick Chubb’s Dominance on the Football Field
At Cedartown High School in Cedartown, Georgia, Chubb was a standout on the football and track teams for the Bulldogs. As a junior in high school, he topped the state of Georgia in rushing yards with 2,721, scoring 38 times. He finished his senior year with 2,690 yards and 41 scores. After four years of high school, he had rushed for 6,983 yards and scored 102 times.
From 2011 to 2015, Chubb was a top competitor in track and field events such as the 100-meter dash and the shot put. He jumped 6.85 meters (22 feet, 4 inches) at the 2013 4A Sectionals, good enough for fifth place.
He set new school records in the 100 and 200 meters while finishing second in both events at the 2014 4A Sectionals, where he also won the shot put with a throw of 17.05 meters (55 feet, eight inches). In 2014, he threw 16.77 meters (55 feet), good enough to win the Class AAAA state shot put championship.

Nick Chubb’s Season-Ending Setback
Chubb seemed to sustain a significant injury to the same knee he hurt in 2015 in Week 2’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game was over for him once he was taken off the field. Head coach Kevin Stefanski made the announcement after the game that Chubb would be out for the rest of the season.
The Rich Football Heritage of Nick Chubb’s Ancestry
His great-grandfather, one of eight brothers, established Chubbtown, Georgia, in Floyd County, a hamlet of free blacks that survived the American Civil War and bears the name of Chubb. Henry and Zach, two of his older brothers, both played college football, with Henry at cornerback for Troy and Zach at defensive back for Air Force.
Henry’s dad was a Valdosta State player, and his uncle Aaron was a Georgia Bulldogs linebacker. Brandon Chubb, another cousin of his, has played on various NFL rosters as a free agent after being undrafted. His cousin Bradley Chubb plays for the Miami Dolphins.
Nick Chubb’s Serious Injury Shakes Stadium
After Nick Chubb, a running back for the Cleveland Browns, went down with an injury, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman of ESPN broke the news that it was serious.
In the first half of Monday night’s 26-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chubb was caught on a run near the goal line and instantly grabbed his left leg. At first glance, things didn’t look good, but the newscasters later revealed that things were actually far worse.
Viewers of the ABC broadcast will not be able to see the replay of Nick Chubb’s injury. Even as Buck was speaking, a replay was being broadcast in the stadium, and the spectators let out a collective groan.
Yes, we won’t be displaying that. That’s as terrible as it gets,” remarked analyst Troy Aikman. While being brought to the ground by another opponent, Chubb took a low blow from Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. His knee bent in a way it shouldn’t have because of that.
After Chubb went down, he was taken off the field on a stretcher. Buck reported that, after seeing the video, Steelers supporters yelled his name and applauded him as he headed to the locker room. The team said Brown’s knee injury made him ineligible right away. Chubb’s backup, Jerome Ford, scored on the next play, but the crowd didn’t go wild.
Take a look at below tweet:
Joe Buck: “I am told that the replay of Nick Chubb getting injured is not to be seen.”
The groan from the Pittsburgh crowd probably tells us all we need to know. Chubb was carted off.

Then, after the game, Kevin Stefanski, the Browns’ head coach, verified what everyone had suspected. Chubb’s season is finished after suffering a “significant” knee injury, the nature of which was not disclosed.
Chubb is a crucial piece of the offense for the Browns and one of the greatest running backs in the NFL. In 2017, Chubb’s sixth season in the NFL, he set career highs with 1,525 running yards and 12 touchdowns. The 27-year-old gained 106 yards on 18 attempts in the Browns’ season-opening win against the Cincinnati Bengals last week, and 64 yards on 10 carries when he got down on Monday night. Chubb and the Browns have agreed to a $36 million contract over the course of three years.
Ford completed the night with 106 total yards (106 rushing yards on 16 carries and 25 receiving yards on 3 receptions) and a touchdown. Now that Chubb is out for the season, he’ll get the most of the carries. Ford, at 23 years old, is in his second year of professional ball.
