The Evolution of Al Snow From Indy Wrestling to WWE Stardom
Al Snow, a fervent supporter of professional wrestling, made his professional debut on May 22, 1982, in a contest for Ohio’s Midwest Championship Wrestling. He operated in the independent circuits from 1982 to 1995 as both a wrestler and a trainer.
He competed in Smoky Mountain Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in 1995. He also joined Body Slammers as an assistant trainer, however that affiliation only lasted until 1997.
Al also experienced a significant turning point in 1995 when he signed a contract in August of that year making him a much bigger player in the WWE.
He performed the roles of Avatar and Shinobi within his first year. Later as Leif Cassidy, he collaborated with Marty Jannetty under the name The New Rockers in February 1996.
Al left the WWE in September 1997 and returned to the Extreme Championship Wrestling roster, where his famous moment of engaging with a mannequin head first gained him even more notoriety.
Al made another company transition in 1998, joining WWE with the mannequin head that had made him so famous in ECW. He served the organization in a variety of capacities from 1998 to 2008, although in the later years, he began to broaden his interests.
Despite starting in 2002, he quit his position as a commentator for “Sunday Night Heat” in favour of “Velocity” in September 2004, only to return to ECW in June 2006. Al started working with OVW in 2007 when he was hired as a trainer.
He had even started to travel the independent circuits by this time, despite some initial pauses caused by his WWE commitments. Al also performed duties as a wrestler, enforcer and agent for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling/Impact Wrestling from 2008 to 2017.
