Who is Gil Brandt Famous?
Gil Brandt is the Pro Football Hall of Famer and a member of the design committee that helped the Dallas Cowboys go from an expansion franchise to “America’s Team”. We are deeply saddened to share with you that he passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 91.

He served as the team’s vice president of player personnel from 1960, when the Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion franchise, until May 1989, when he was fired by new owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
The Cowboys enjoyed 20 consecutive winning seasons under Brandt, coach Tom Landry and general manager Tex Schramm from 1966 through 1985. They also won two championships and went to five Super Bowls. Super Bowl VI saw the Cowboys defeat the Miami Dolphins 24-3 and Super Bowl XII saw the Cowboys defeat the Denver Broncos 27-10.
Brandt is credited as being the first in the NFL to perform psychological testing to gauge a prospect’s mental toughness under pressure and the first to use computers to grade prospects at each position in advance of the NFL draft.
