Stephen Joseph Scalise is a prominent politician in the United States who represents the 1st congressional district in the state of Louisiana and holds the position of House Majority Leader. Between the years 2019 and 2023, he was the Whip of the House Minority.

What did Steve Scalise Say About His Health?

On Tuesday, August 29, 2023 morning, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Steve Scalise, said that he had been diagnosed with blood cancer which he’s started receiving treatment for. Scalise claimed that he underwent blood testing following a few days of not feeling like myself this past week.

He tweeted:

“The results uncovered some irregularities and after undergoing additional tests, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a very treatable blood cancer, I have now begun treatment, which will continue for the next several months.”

While he receives treatment, Scalise said he anticipates returning to Washington to continue serving as the majority leader of Louisiana’s First Congressional District.

Scalise is a well-liked congressman who represents Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District. In 2008, he won a special election to take Bobby Jindal’s position as governor, who had recently been elected.

At Louisiana State University, where he was twice elected speaker of LSU’s Student Government Association, the former systems engineer got his start in politics. Before being chosen for the U.S. House, he spent 12 years in the Louisiana state legislature.

Steve Scalise Shared His Health Condition on Twitter

A victory in 2012 that elevated him to chairman of the prominent Republican Study Group marked a turning point in his career. He defeated Republican Rep. Tom Graves of Georgia, who had received the group’s founders’ unanimity endorsement prior to the election.

When a shooter opened fire on Scalise in Alexandria, Virginia, in June 2017, the then-House majority whip was playing second base, which is where he usually plays on the congressional baseball team. In that shooting, the shooter was killed.

After the bullet that struck Scalise’s left hip travelled through his pelvis, breaking bones, hurting internal organs, and causing significant bleeding, he required repeated surgeries and blood transfusions to heal.
