Dolly Rebecca Parton is a well-known American businesswoman, philanthropist, actor, singer-songwriter and musician who is best recognized for her decades-long career in country music. She has recently explained why she rejected a tea invite from Kate Middleton.
Why did Dolly Parton Reject Kate Middleton’s Invitation to Tea?
Parton revealed that she received the invitation from the Princess of Wales while travelling to London for work. She stated in a chat:
“This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate but I couldn’t even go. I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me and one of these days I’m going to get to do that – that would be great.”
Parton made a joke about why she couldn’t find the time to meet with Middleton:
“She wasn’t going to promote my rock album so I had to say no. I love the people, the feel of London.”
Parton also voiced her sorrow for skipping London City during her tour because she never had the chance to partake in any tourist activities because of her job. She said:
“I love the people, the feel of London. I don’t unfortunately get time to sightsee. I have in the past, me and my band, in a tour bus when we had it planned.”
Even after 60 years of singing, Dolly Parton does not have any intentions to stop. She confessed:
“I would never retire. I would hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday – and hopefully one I’ve written but that’s how I hope to go, I am not touring anymore but I will continue to do special shows here and there now and then like a long weekend or festival shows.”
On a more sombre note, she remarked that unfortunately, she doesn’t have much time when in the city on business to explore the attractions. This country legend is having a great year, as evidenced most recently by the royal invitation.
Parton will release a new album in November; it will be her first rock record. She has also drawn recognition for her ongoing charitable endeavours particularly with her Imagination Library, which is currently growing to assist more kids. Children can receive free books through the institution Parton formed from the time of their birth until their fifth birthday.
