Josh Seiter, a candidate on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of “The Bachelorette,” passed away just a few days after discussing his struggles with anxiety and depression online. At the time of death, he was 36 years old. On Monday, August 28, 2023, Seiter’s family posted on his Instagram page that he had passed away.
The cause of death was not mentioned in the post.
What Illness Did Josh Seiter Have Before His Death?
Prior to his death, Seiter was working as a model. Seiter participated in The Bachelorette’s eleventh season in 2015. The first week, he was dismissed. In a June interview, he came out as bi. He told:
“I believe my upbringing, in the homeschooled Christian niche that we were brought up in, stayed with me, both consciously and unconsciously, for years after leaving home for college, I always knew as an early teen I was different s*xually, I just don’t think I had the vocabulary to articulate what the difference was.”
He had been upfront about his mental health difficulties. In 2021, he posted on social media that he had attempted suicide once and that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
He posted a selfie last Thursday, August 24, 2023 along with the remark, “Surviving depression and anxiety one day at a time with a smile.”
Seiter was equally transparent about his sobriety accomplishments. In a photo from June, he wrote, “Here’s to 3 years and 8 months of sobriety.”
He tweeted another happy image of himself that day along with the following message for his fans, “Remember to smile even when it’s the last thing on earth you feel like doing. It can change your whole day.”
