Erin Napier Illness
It took doctors a full decade to identify Erin Napier’s perforated appendix, even though she had been experiencing symptoms since 2004. Erin and Ben’s book, Make Something Good Today, details their experiences throughout this trying time. Erin first experienced bouts of fever and abdominal pain, gradually becoming more severe.
In 2018, Erin and her husband wrote a memoir discussing their history of illness, and in the same year, she spoke to one media source about the traumatic experience.
“It was a really sad, scary, and confusing ten years,” Erin said. Erin recalled that her health issues started when she was 19 years old. According to the patient, “in the beginning, it would be 24 hours of terrible stomach pain and a low-grade fever, and then it would disappear.”
Because of their confusion regarding the finding, they recommended that she see a different surgeon. During a second surgery, doctors discovered the origin of the extremely rare disease: a perforated appendix. The organ has been regularly bursting for years and then healing itself. When it initially occurred when I was 19 years old, a partial rupture occurred.

Erin Napier Suffers Panic Attacks
Nearly a decade after her long battle with an unknown illness, Erin Napier speaks openly about her mental health problems.
The 36-year-old HGTV personality posted an honest update regarding her health on Instagram on Wednesday night. The anniversary of my illness hits me especially hard at this time of year. The Home Town star wrote in the caption, “These hospital photos were taken in 2014, at the end of my 10-year illness from (unknowingly) a perforated appendix.”
The post featured two photos of the actress with her family in the hospital and two pages of excerpts from the book she and her husband/co-star Ben Napier wrote many years ago. “For a long time, I thought I had put that all to bed with that final surgery, and I wrote about that decade in our book, Make Something Good Today.”
Although her “appendix has been gone along with the physical suffering for eight years now,” the Home Town star has revealed, “I’ve been learning through conversation with my friend who is a therapist that it left some deep ruts in my neuro-pathways that have left me with an extreme fear and preoccupation with sickness, nausea in particular, ever since.”

Erin stated that she felt a sense of relief after “connecting all these dots in recent months” because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She spoke on the motivations for the post and how she hoped that being open about her struggles with her health would be an inspiration to others.
Erin Napier Throat Surgery
Erin posted a selfie with her buddy Rodney, a family member, on May 15 from her hospital bed. She said that she had throat surgery and described her family’s history with Rodney, a longtime cafeteria worker at the hospital where she recovered. Since there is only one hospital in Laurel, Erin was likely treated at South Central Regional Medical Center.

My father established the first physical therapy department in 1975 at our local hospital, and my older brother worked there as a doctor of physical therapy for 15 years. Since I was a little child, when I would bring my dad to the hospital, Rodney has been working there.
