Crystal Finn, who plays Kate in the Netflix series Succession, recently spoke about the horrifying otter assault that sent her to the hospital. The star played ATN producer Lauren Pawson in the hit drama’s fourth and final season, which ended dramatically earlier this year.
The actress spoke candidly about the terrifying experience in July, describing how she was swimming in the Feather River in Northern California when three otters suddenly arrived. In a recent interview, Finn discussed the incident and its aftermath.
“I felt something on my rear and my leg,” the actress said. When I raised my voice and looked around, the otters suddenly appeared before me. They suddenly dove and began attacking me once more.

As Finn described, the three otters “dove back down” and resumed biting her as she swam nearer the shore. Despite her many wounds, she scrambled to safety on dry land. The worst bite, she recounted, was on her butt, which she couldn’t see but could feel. The bites were painful.
Finn disclosed that she sought medical attention for bite wounds at Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee. Though she didn’t see the otters beforehand, the actress said she wouldn’t have considered them a threat otherwise.

In other words, “If I had seen them, I don’t think it would have given me pause,” Finn said. “Oh, those adorable river otters,” I could have thought. Attacks by otters are uncommon because mammals are not known for preying on humans. In the United States, Succession was shown on HBO. In the United Kingdom, it can be viewed on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
