Selena Gomez has been so preoccupied with her role in “Only Murders in the Building” and other cinematic endeavours that it has been quite some time since she released any new original music to her fans. On Thursday morning, however, Gomez confirmed that a new album is in the works and revealed that a new single, named “Single Soon,” would be released on August 25.
It’s been reported that Gomez is hard at work on her fourth studio album, the follow-up to 2020’s “Rare.” Still, in the meantime, “she wanted to give her fans a fun end of the summer song to enjoy while they’ve been patiently waiting for new music,” as stated in the press release for the single. The song “Single Soon” is a collaboration between Cashmere Cat and benny blanco. It may be pre-ordered and presented on limited edition 7″ vinyl.
The new track “Single Soon” follows Gomez and Afrobeats atar Rema’s chart-topping remix of “Calm Down,” which has been on the Billboard Hot 100 singles list for a while (it peaked at No. 3) and features Rema. Even more recently, the RIAA certified it as triple platinum.
Gomez announced the new track with an Instagram post, complete with several photographs from behind the scenes of the colourful music video.
“Y’all have been asking for new music for a while,” she wrote in the caption. “Since I’m not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer. ‘SINGLE SOON.’ August 25th. Presave it now.”
At the Variety Hitmakers event a year ago, Gomez hinted at a more joyful tone for her new song as she accepted the Film Song of the Year award for “My Mind & Me.” An Apple+ documentary detailing the multitalented performer’s battles with mental illness accompanied the song’s release.
