His nephew and Chavo Guerrero found him unconscious in a Minneapolis Marriott Hotel City Center room. Preexisting cardiovascular illness caused heart failure, as confirmed by the autopsy. Chavo Guerrero said that Eddie was clinging to life when he spotted him in a 2020 interview for Dark Side of the Ring.
