The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that a head-on collision on US 221 resulted in the deaths of a married couple. Bruce Schneggenburger a resident of Advance, the driver of the Honda perished in the collision.
Stephanie Ann Schneggenburger his wife and another passenger in the Honda was brought to Watauga Medical Center but later passed away from her wounds. David Whisement shared a post on Facebook in which he described the incident.

Stephanie Schneggenburger Obituary: What Happened to Her?
A terrible head-on collision on US-221 in Ashe County regrettably claimed the life of 55-year-old Stephanie Ann Schneggenburger. The fatal occurrence took place on August 6, a day with a lot of rain and difficult driving conditions.
Stephanie was riding in a 2022 Honda CRV with her husband Bruce Schneggenburger who was driving the car. On that fateful day, about 2:30 p.m., Nicholas Sponholz of Fleetwood was driving a 2001 GMC Canyon southbound on US-221 close to Woodstown Road during a period of heavy rain.
Tragically, the GMC lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the Schneggenburgers’ Honda CRV. Stephanie Ann Schneggenburger endured significant injuries in the incident despite surviving the initial impact.
She was taken right away to Watauga Medical Center, where doctors did everything they could to save her life. Sadly, despite their committed care, Stephanie’s injuries turned out to be too severe, resulting in her premature and terrible death, adding a tremendous amount of grief to an already heartbreaking scenario.
It is significant to note that the collision unfortunately took the lives of Stephanie Schneggenburger and her husband Bruce Schneggenburger at the scene of the collision. Their family, friends and the larger community are all greatly affected by the depth of their loss.
Nicholas Sponholz was arrested by law enforcement due to the terrible incident. Two counts of misdemeanor death by car and failure to maintain lane control are among the numerous accusations he is facing, underscoring how serious the matter is.
The tragic life of Stephanie Ann Schneggenburger and her untimely death serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the catastrophic effects of accidents. Her narrative serves as a sad reminder of the frailty of life and the value of cherishing every moment with our loved ones. Her memory will always be cherished by all who knew her.
