Bonnie was already married when they met in 1930 through a mutual acquaintance. But she soon understood that she could never love anybody other than Clyde. Bonnie’s devotion to Clyde endured long after he was sent to prison, even though she never obtained a legal divorce from her husband.
While Clyde did his two years in prison, she waited for him. Even after Clyde’s release from jail, where he was described as having transformed from “a schoolboy to a rattlesnake” by a buddy, Bonnie never abandoned him.

It came to a stop, and a cop stepped out to finish off Bonnie with a few rounds through the open window. According to official reports, Clyde had 17 and Bonnie had 26 entry wounds. The funeral parlour had problems embalming the bodies because of the extent of the damage. They were nothing but a collection of wet rags, as one cop put it later.

The family of Bonnie and Clyde made the tragic mistake of allowing public viewings of their loved ones’ remains after they had been transported to Dallas. Ten thousand people crowded the funeral home to see Clyde’s body; Bonnie’s mother believed that twenty thousand more people, while less boisterous, arrived to see her daughter’s body.
