“The Black Beast,” Derrick Lewis, recently discussed the difficulties he faced when cutting weight for his UFC 291 contest against Serghei Spivac. Lewis claims that he passed out moments before the fight’s weigh-ins. Therefore, his instructors had to prop him up and keep him awake. It was a horrible event for Lewis, and he thought he had perished. The thought of past fighters who had blacked out in similar situations and been forced to retire from their bouts plagued him. Luckily, the incident took place in the UFC Performance Institute, where he had access to the care and support he needed to get over the ordeal.
Despite the controversy surrounding his weight loss, Derrick Lewis has promised the media that he will have no problems with the scales this time around. His declaration that he has already reached his fighting weight for UFC 291 versus Marcos Rogerio de Lima suggests a more measured and healthy approach to weight management.

Lewis, though, weighed in at 264.6 pounds when he faced Daniel Cormier at UFC 230, which was just under the limit. In contrast, Cormier weighed in at 251.2 pounds. Therefore, it was clear that DC had the upper hand and could defeat Lewis. Cormier finished Lewis off in the second round at the 2:14 mark.
