We regret to inform you of the demise of Hailey Hodsden, a courageous US Army soldier from Dripping Springs, Texas. Hailey Hodsden set the bar high for commitment and distinction in service to her country.
She died when Hailey’s Stryker armored vehicle collided with a semi-truck as it entered the A93 freeway. Hodsden received treatment and was brought to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The military vehicle’s other soldiers were unharmed and the crash is currently being investigated.
Hodsden was given first aid on the spot before being sent to a nearby hospital, but when she got there, the hospital’s medical professionals declared the 24-year-old officer dead. Lt. Col. Joseph M. Byerly, 4th Squadron Commander said:
“Hailey was an exceptional leader, As the Saber family mourns her loss, we are reminded of the courage and commitment that she displayed each day. She was a true example for others to emulate.”
Col. Robert S. McChrystal, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Commander said:
“Lt. Hodsden was well-respected by all who knew and served with her. She was a valued Dragoon and teammate, We extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends and fellow Dragoons.”
She earned her degree from the elite U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where she not only distinguished herself academically but also as an important player for the West Point rugby team. She was commissioned as an armor officer after demonstrating her leadership abilities right away starting a spectacular career in the US Army.
Hodsden received the team’s Guvi Award as a senior, according to the Army women’s rugby team’s Instagram page, which Dawson said is presented to “the player that has the most positive impacts on those around her.”
The sacrifice Hailey made in support of her country will never be forgotten and those who had the honor of knowing her will always cherish her memory. May the outpouring of love and support from her military family and the larger community provide her family comfort and strength.
May we honor 1st Lt. Hailey Hodsden as a brave and committed soldier, a compassionate leader and a treasured friend as we grieve her passing. Holding her legacy dear to our hearts, let’s continue to pay tribute to her memory by giving back to our country and serving others.
Hailey demonstrated outstanding leadership, bravery and devotion to her soldiers while serving as a platoon leader in the 4th Squadron of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. She embodied the highest military values with her steadfast commitment to her comrades and her sense of duty in ensuring their safety.
We encourage everyone to join us in sending up their thoughts and prayers for Hailey Hodsden’s family, friends and the whole 2nd Cavalry Regiment as they endure this unbearably trying time.
