Barbie, both as a movie and a pop cultural campaign from Warner Bros. is an unapologetic sensation. It is one of WB’s most successful films in recent memory and has shattered numerous box office records.
It is WB’s largest film since 2019’s Joker (which, yeah, is also getting a sequel) and it has already surpassed The Batman (which is getting a sequel) as the studio’s highest-grossing film of the decade thus far.
After surpassing $900 million on Thursday, August 3 it is just a few days away from reaching the $1 billion barrier globally. Margot Robbie genuinely projected that Barbie would earn $1 billion when she initially pitched the project.
“I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director, And then I gave a series of examples like, ‘dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg,’ that and that, that and that – pretty much naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studios over the years.”
” I was like, ‘And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig.’ And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!”
The public has been curious about what is happening with Barbie 2.
Will Barbie 2 be Released?
Greta Gerwig, who directed Barbie and co-wrote the film with Noah Baumbach is also without a deal for the follow-up. Barbie 2 has not yet been formally announced by Warner Bros and Greta Gerwig has not indicated that she will be returning for a sequel, but at least one of those things is extremely likely to change.
Warner Bros. will almost certainly want Barbie 2 to be made because Barbie is already a huge critical and commercial success, but it should only be approved under one condition which may not even be feasible.
The Barbie movie concludes with Margot Robbie’s doll becoming human and leaving Barbieland behind to live in the real world which doesn’t particularly imply a sequel. By the end, the disputes are settled and Kenergy is at its best.
