The University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine wrote on Facebook that Brooke, a longtime St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park member, wasn’t acting like himself in the lagoon where he lives.
Brooke was named after the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, where he came from about 20 years ago. The post said that Brooke acted strangely by “intermittently rolling his head,” which is abnormal. In a Facebook post about the situation, the zoo said that one of its most famous animals was “acting strangely.”
Why Is He Acting Strange?
So, last week, the 376-pound animal was taken 75 miles west of the zoo to a college hospital in Gainesville for “a thorough workup.”
Brooke had several medical tests and procedures done at the meeting, including a blood draw. In one shot, a UF vet is sitting on the back of the alligator to get the sample. Brooke’s eyes are taped shut and her paws hang off the surgery table’s side. She has been given anaesthesia.

The “unusual behavior” was caused by an ear infection, the zoological health service team decided. Brooke could return to the Alligator Farm after getting some medicine later that day. The school said that people who saw the post were interested in where alligators’ ears are.
