Henry Breckenridge, a respected member of the Peabody Police Department was sometimes referred to as the “Mayor of Peabody” because of his outstanding characteristics.

His charismatic personality could light up every room he entered and his presence was defined by a bright smile, a booming karaoke voice, contagious laughing and a contagious smile. Henry dedicated his life to making other people happy, making him a genuinely great hero. We are saddened to share the news that he passed away on Thursday, July 20. 

Honoring the Life & Legacy of “Henry Breckenridge”

Peabody Police Department shared the news of Henry’s death. The department said he died due to difficulties that developed during a routine procedure at Salem Hospital.

The staff at the hospital tried heroically to save him, but it was in vain. Brothers Deli Peabody posted on Facebook, “The Brothers Deli Peabody family are devastated to hear about the passing of Peabody Police officer Henry Breckenridge.”

Breckenridge was an outstanding cop who supported neighborhood policing. Police Chief Tom Griffin said that Henry was one of the nicest and most gentle people I have had the honor to know.

Griffin stated that Breckenridge passed away despite the heroic efforts of the Salem Hospital staff. Breckenridge was described by Griffin as an outstanding police officer with a firm grasp on community policing and as well regarded by all sectors of our community, but particularly by our young citizens.

According to Griffin, there has been an outpouring of support and tributes in Breckenridge’s name from numerous young people whose lives he positively influenced.

David wrote, “He lit up every room that he walked into with his huge smile, his loud karaoke voice, his boisterous laugh, and his loveable personality.”

A GoFundMe page started to raise money for the officer’s family and quickly amassed over $4,000, proving how well-known and popular Breckenridge was. By providing Henry with the proper send-off, the fundraising aims to help the family through this tragic time and lessen the stress.
