Birkin wed British conductor and composer John Barry in 1965. When Barry hired Birkin for his musical Passion Flower Hotel, their paths crossed. Between 1963 and 1987, John Barry wrote the music for eleven James Bond movies. He also composed and sang the “James Bond Theme” for the 1962 film “Dr. No”, the first in the franchise.
Kate Barry, a photographer was their child and lived from 8 April 1967 to 11 December 2013. The couple divorced in 1968. After their split Jane fell in love with French actor and singer Serge Gainsbourg. In the Slogan set in 1968, Jane and Serge became friends.
Gainsbourg and Birkin who are nearly 20 years apart in age, rapidly drew the attention of the general public. They frequently worked together professionally most notably when they sang together on the sensual duet “Je t’aime… moi non plus”.
Despite rumors and false reports that they were married, they were together for 12 years but never were married.

Jane Mallory Birkin was born in Marylebone, London, on December 14, 1946. Her mother, English actress Judy Campbell, was well-known for her theater performances. David Birkin, her father was a World War II spy and a lieutenant commander in the Royal Navy.
Andrew Birkin, a screenwriter and filmmaker is her brother. Sophie Hunter, a director of opera and theater was her niece.
Birkin identified as a “shy English girl” and that she was reared in Chelsea. She said that she had experienced bullying due to how she looked. She stated, “I suffered a lot because of my physique, especially at boarding school.”
Birkin attended Kensington’s Miss Ironside’s School. She received her education at Isle of Wight’s Upper Chine School as well. She initially met composer John Barry when she was 17 years old. They were married in 1965 and the couple were divorced in 1968 after Barry moved to America and Birkin went back to live with her family in London.
