Demi Lovato claims she suffered three strókes and a heart attack and that she was only minutes away from passing away. But she was fortunate to survive her drμg overdose in 2018 since the singer experienced difficult time in her life.
What did Demi Lovato say about Her Overdose?
However, Lovato revealed that almost exactly five years after that incident she is still suffering from hearing loss and eye damage in a candid new interview with Andy Cohen. You can watch her interview in the video provided below:
The star said:
“I wouldn’t change my path because I don’t have any regrets, When I think about things, the closest thing that I get to a regret is when I overdosed … that overdose caused me a lot of … it actually caused a disability. I have vision impairment and hearing impairment to this day.”
She continued:
“I don’t drive because I have blind spots in my vision, It’s a daily constant reminder. You know, anytime I look at something, like, I have blind spots in my vision when I look at your face and so it’s a constant reminder to stay on the right path because I never want that to happen again.”
The former Disney star revealed that she finished a second round of therapy in 2021 before beginning production on the album Holy Fvck in 2022. She said:
“Luckily in the mind state that I’m in now- you know, being sober, having a clear head — I just think in a more positive mind space and I’m not focusing on the shame at all, I know I have a lot of sympathy for where I was at that time and the choices that I made and I understand why it happened and what happened, but there’s no shame that comes with it because it was just a life lesson that I had to learn.”
Lovato also admitted to Cohen that she hasn’t given up on pop music entirely and even expressed a desire to work with Kelly Clarkson in the future. Lovato shared:
“I never say never because you never know what’ll happen, but I’ve just been really influenced by rock music and it’s what I have fun performing live, It was just the path that I took at that time and then when I started, I got sober and I was reevaluating everything in my life including my music and I was like, ‘What makes me happy?’ Like, that’s the most important question and I was like, ‘What makes me happy is listening to rock music and performing rock music.’”

Demi Lovato’s Story of Survival and Strength
In an interview with journalist Tracy Smith, she discusses her life today, her work and more. Lovato told Smith:
“I feel good, I feel more joy in my life than I’ve ever felt because [I’m not] quieting or diminishing any part of myself.”
That represents a significant improvement for Lovato who overdosed on heroin mixed with the potent narcotic fentanyl in July 2018. She almost made it out alive. Lovato told Smith:
“The doctors told me that I had five to ten minutes and … like, if no one had found me, then I wouldn’t be here, And I’m grateful that I’m sitting here today.”
She said that following the overdose, she was legally blind when she awoke in the hospital and that she continues to struggle with hearing loss, tinnitus and blind patches in her vision.
Lovato originally discussed her issues with her health, an eating disorder and substance misuse. She added that she was also happy to be alive.
In a new documentary series on YouTube, Lovato examines her life, both the good and the terrible and shows her as a hugely successful pop artist who was essentially living under the thumb of others. According to Lovato, her overdose occurred during a protracted period of misery.
She told:
“I didn’t control any of my life at that period of time, But, yes, I also needed to grow up and take control. And that’s something I haven’t done until the past two years of my life, which is [why] I’m now in control of my finances. I’m now in control of … the food that I eat, how often I work out.”
Lovato stated that she doesn’t feel comfortable discussing the specifics of her treatment because it might not be effective for everyone:
“I would say that, like, I think the term that I best identify with is California sober, You know, I am cautious to say that just like I feel the complete abstinent method isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution for everybody, I don’t think that this journey of moderation is a one-size-fits-all solution for everybody, too.”
