What Happened in the Latest Baseball Match between Phillies and Miami Marlins?
On Sunday, July 9, 2023 Bryan De La Cruz had four hits including a home run as the Miami Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3. For the Marlins, who entered the All-Star break with their greatest record in franchise history at 53-39, Jess Sánchez and youngster Dane Myers both hit home runs.
Marlins first-year manager Skip Schumaker said:
“It’s been fun to watch them grow, There is a lot of belief in that clubhouse that we’re ready to win, and they’ve proved it.”
In 6 1/3 innings of work, Marlins starter Jess Luzardo (8-5) struck out nine batters while allowing just four hits. The left-hander struck out Bryson Stott who had two of the hits against Luzardo before giving up two runs and was removed from the game.
On his way to the first, he moved toward Stott, and the two of them exchanged a few words. Luzardo said:
“Obviously, I was not intentionally trying to throw at anyone, I believe someone in the dugout didn’t like that I was pitching inside but that is part of the game. As a pitcher, if you stay on only one side of the plate, it is not going to go well for you.”
You can watch the highlights of the baseball match between Phillies and the Miami Marlins in the video provided below:
Due to stiffness in his right elbow, Bryce Harper the star slugger for the Philadelphia Phillies was held out of the starting lineup. Harper left the game after the third inning after being struck by a pitch on his surgically repaired elbow.
With the exception of Luis Arraez, every Marlins batter who faced Phillies starter Aaron Nola and two relievers had a hit. Arraez had a 0-for-4 performance, which saw his major league-leading batting average fall to .383. Schumaker said:
“Just proud of how they come in and work every day, When you’re excited to get to the ball park every day, that creates a fun culture.”
The Phillies dropped the final two games of the three-game series versus Miami after a team-record 13-game road-winning run. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said:
“We lost two out of three against these guys and that’s going to happen, But I feel really good about this club. I love the rotation, the bullpen’s been great and I think there’s more offense there. We haven’t peaked there and we will.”
Malin’s fans are happy after their victory. One fan said, “I do not understand something, The Miami Marlins won 4 games of 6 vs Arizona and 4of 6 against the Phillies.”
